Mission Statement

The meltdowns at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant triggered by the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami resulted in widespread environmental radioactive contamination, becoming the most severe nationwide environmental issue. Decontamination must be our priority in order to secure public safety as soon as possible. In the past, radioactive decontamination was typically required for radiation leaks at radioactive isotope research labs and small scale industrial offices. However, the large scale and severity of the radioactive contamination in Tōhoku is causing increasing public anxiety regarding radiation risks. Yet, radioactive decontamination efforts are restricted by various factors such as insufficient financial resources, obtaining resident consent for radioactive waste disposal, reducing radioactive waste materials and encapsulating the remaining radioactivity at the Fukushima Plant. A common platform is needed where experts from all fields can discuss and exchange technical information. SRRCE was founded as a non-profit, international and scientific organization working towards the decontamination of environmental radioactivity. SRRCE unifies professionals from all disciplines including radiochemistry, civil engineering, water environment, waste management, environmental chemistry, environmental law, inorganic chemistry, environmental economics, risk management and radiobiology to achieve its mission.
